Loving Your Lymph

I seem to be talking about the lymphatic system a lot these days.  It's my favorite body system and the unsung hero in maintaining optimal health.  Anyone that hangs out around me long enough, either by taking a class, stopping by the shop or just having tea, eventually all health conversations eventually lead to lymph.

For those of you that have taken classes with Dr Kim Balas and Steven Horne you are probably familiar with the concept of ABC+D.  Well when you give your lymph some TLC you hit all four principles.  Here's how:  It activates the emotional healing response, provides nutrient transport to build, assists with detoxification or cleansing, and works as a direct aid for many ailments.  I find working with the lymphatic system useful for respiratory issues, male & female reproductive challenges, and anyone struggling with multiple emotional blockages.  By the way, if you haven't take this course yet, I highly recommend it if you want to either be a better herbalist or just take better care of yourself.

So when working with the lymph where do you start?  Essential oils and flower essences are a great place to start.  When we talk about different organs holding on to specific emotions I find that the lymph system is very much connected.  So if you find you've been unable to work through a specific emotional concern look to adding some lymphatic support.

Herbally, I love Nature's Sunshine Lymphatic Drainage and Lymphomax and find adding these to any of your herbal protocols will enhance their effectiveness.  Manual lymphatic drainage is very useful.  It is a very light touch, noninvasive therapy, usually performed by a licensed massage therapist.  I personally had a breast fibroid disappear after just one session.

Making good food choices is critical if you want to maintain a healthy lymph system.  Avoiding commercial dairy products is huge.  Most of today's dairy products, organics included is very mucus forming and congests the lymph.  Choose raw dairy from a local farm and take some time to understand the A2 factor.  The Amasai from Beyond Organic seems to be working well for many people.

Lastly, I cannot say enough about the benefits of cultured whey for the lymphatic system.  I've been personally consuming the one from Beyond Organic (Suero Viv) consistently for the past six months and it has become my favorite elixir.  I still drink my kombucha and coconut water but as far as having an affinity for the lymph system nothing comes close.  It's my new "secret" ingredient that seems to be making my herbal protocols all work faster.   Also a great detox option, read my post on The Suero Cleanse.

Whether you are a natural health professional or someone looking to take better care of yourself, I can promise you that the more you understand and love your lymph the better you will look and feel.

Beyond Organic on a Budget

I received a note from one of our team members this week expressing concern that eating whole foods and beyond organically seemed impossible to do given limited financial means. Not the first time that I have helped a mom desperate to feed her children healthy nutritious foods make some tough food choices.

Believe it or not, I have had to make those exact same decisions for my family over the past decade. I love being a small business owner but sometimes the allure of "only" a $10 per hour regular paycheck has its appeal. Having to close your business unexpectedly for a few days due bad hurricanes, a dramatic sudden decline in customers when gas prices hit an all time high and other financial woes have at times had me making those same tough choices. At the end of the day we each have to ask ourselves, "how much can I afford to spend on food today?"

One of Jordan Rubin's goals for his new company, Beyond Organic is one million people feeding their families for free. My team is made up of primarily moms on a tight budget that truly understand the importance of nutrient dense whole foods. Their challenge is either finding them, paying for them or both. Beyond Organic offers solutions to both dilemma's- great food delivered to your door and an easy, affordable business model to help pay for your personal consumption.

A $40 investment is all it takes to get started. The $40 package includes a state of the art website and shopping cart. By sharing the message of the value of these nutritious foods with friends, family, and co-workers it shouldn't be long before you receive your first paycheck.

With this first paycheck I would buy one case of Amasai. Wholesale cost is $5 per bottle, add a buck each for shipping and it works out to $1.33 per 2oz serving. 2oz is the size of most popsicle molds- try to spring for the BPA-free ones. Make Amasai popsicles for your kids. Share the idea with two of your friends or neighbors and talk about the health benefits (basic info, more to follow.) Then offer one of your bottles at the cost of $9 each. If their kids like it- and we all know that they will then they can buy their own case as a preferred customer from your website and save. If you sell 4 bottles then you've paid for two for your family. It's that easy.

Granted, two bottles of Amasai per month doesn't constitute feeding your family for free. But two bottles is better than none and all of a sudden a Beyond Organic small part-time business just became a lot more obtainable as far as time and financial investment. It might take longer to build this way but remember- this is a ground floor opportunity. Imagine where you can be in a few years if you start now.

Beyond Organic, Reign Supreme Mountain Spring Water, Optimal Food and Drink for Optimal Living

"You're not sick; you're thirsty. Don't treat thirst with medication" according to Dr, F. Batmanghelidj, author and Water Cure advocate.

Imagine pure, natural water bubbling up from the earth, similar to what the ancients drank every day. That is what may be found in Jordan Rubin’s Reign Supreme Mountain Spring Water. Coming soon in October 2011.

Why is water so important for us to drink? Here is what the U.S. Department of Interior says,

“Water is of major importance to all living things; in some organisms, up to 90% of their body weight comes from water. Up to 60% of the human body is water, the brain is composed of 70% water, and the lungs are nearly 90% water. Lean muscle tissue contains about 75% water by weight, as is the brain; body fat contains 10% water and bone has 22% water. About 83% of our blood is water, which helps digest our food, transport waste, and control body temperature. Each day humans must replace 2.4 litres of water, some through drinking and the rest taken by the body from the foods eaten."

Water is essential to living, thinking and everything our bodies need to do to survive. We can not function properly without enough intake for our bodies. Average daily intake required for each person is calculated by one's health condition, activity level, age, and other factors. Without enough water, the body will become dehydrated. Dehydration is known to cause: headaches, stomach aches, constipation, muscle pain, fatigue, mental confusion, heart palpitations and a plethora of other symptoms. Water assists every major system in the body with its functions for life and sustenance. It is vital to our survival and well-being.

Everyone needs water. Why not have the purest form you can find? Beyond Organic will offer pure, natural water from their pristine spring. If you want to know more about the products that will be offered or to see how you can become a consumer or independent mission marketer for Beyond Organic, please see the links below.

Clermont Herb Conference

I just wanted to take a moment to say KUDO's on an amazing job with the Clermont Health Conference, and introduce myself.

I really enjoyed how Clell Fowles shared his recent struggle with weight gain. This shows that accomplished, knowledgeable professionals in the wellness industry struggle with the same day to day challenges that we all do. I look forward to seeing him in the future to see how he used his knowledge and determination to overcome these adversities. I also want to share that the guest speakers made you laugh while learning. There wasn't a boring or wasted moment to be had.

My name is Monica Hickman, I have been working in the emergency medical field for over 8 yrs now. I just recently took my passion for helping others to the next level of starting my own homebased Natural Health and Wellness Coaching business. I have been blessed with the encouragement of Susan Matlock, Wendy Reilly and Lee Butler to Go For it! I love encouraging people that being average doesn't have to be a way of life. Having the opportunity to attend the Health Conference filled me with more ways to educate myself and my clients. Thank you again for making this possible!

My website is Naturalhealthandwellnesscoach.com it is still in the infant stages, but I'm having a so much fun learning to create it myself and grow at my own pace.

I just recently did a photoshoot on top of the Edgewater Hotel in Historic Downtown Winter Garden at Sunrise. It was Amazing! I have sat on top of this building many times over the past 11 years meditating and working through my thoughts. I thought it would be fun to do my Yoga and Workout routine with a photographer to capture photos for my web site. I will share the experience and some photos in a Blog soon.

Get Healthy and Be Happy, Monica aka Julep

Careers in Natural Health

In 1999, I left my corporate marketing job at Disney. I loved my job, had a good salary, insurance and a full benefits package. Many thought that I was crazy to give it all up for the uncertainty of running a small business. I took that first small shop and expanded, bought commercial property and within six years became very profitable. In 2005, I sold the business and property to invest in other ventures. Today, I own two retail stores, one commerical building, have an interest in two other health shops and have written a book.

My passion is to help other women realize their dreams through small business ownership. This might be as a natural health retail store owner, a home based consulting business or as an Aromatherapy Spa Party Hostess. There are many part and full-time opportunities available in the natural health field.

So how do you know if owning your own business is right for you? Here are some great resources to check out:
Escape from Cubicle Nation

So let's say that you've got the right stuff, where do you begin? First, find yourself a few good mentors and a coach. Your mentors might include a small business owner in your area, a S.C.O.R.E. Couselor, and/or a friend that specializes in something like marketing or accounting. Your coach needs to be someone in the natural health field. Either a retail store owner, aromatherapy spa consultant or natural health practitioner. Ask about internsip programs.

Then start your natural health education-
Tree of Light-General Natural Health Training Materials
JennScents-Aromtherapy Training
Clayton College of Natural Health
Herb Allure-Educational Products
Certified Natural Health Professionals (CNHP)-Seminars
NSP Forum

And start working on your business plan-

Good Luck!!!
