Jennifer's Suero Cleanse

I love being a part of Beyond Organic.  It is an amazing company by Jordan Rubin (Maker's Diet & Garden of Life) that offers food direct from his farm to our doorstep.  Their SueroViv Cleanse has really helped enhance my health and changed my life!

SueroViv is a whole food, living cultured whey beverage with organic juices, honey, and essential oils.  It is a distinctive fusion of ancient tradition and modern style. Utilizing a lost treasure from antiquity, SueroViv marries the virtues of cultured whey and Reign Supreme Mountain Spring Water, impeccably flavored with the essential elements of health that hydrate your body and fuel your passion for life.

It contains probiotics, enzymes, vitamins, minerals, antioxidants and provides calcium for bone strength, potassium (oxygenation to the heart, kidney health) and B vitamins (for stress).

My top 15 reasons why I love SueroViv and what it did for me:
1. Increased energy
2. Improved skin and acne issues
3. Better and more restful sleep
4. Reduced female issues
5. Better heart health (calmed my heart palpitations, better stamina with exercise)
6. Reduced joint and muscle pain and stiffness (especially after work outs)
7. Improved appearance of my hair (and it seemed to grow more)
8. Curbed my appetite and I felt satisfied
9. Better brain focus, concentration and memory recall
10. Reduced sinus issues
11. Reduced stress (able to manage tough situations with ease)
12. Improved lymphatic movement, decreased "stuckness"
13. Weight loss (in those tough areas - gut and thighs)
14. Improved digestion, didn't bother my IBS or Crohn's

Curcumin BP

Curcumin BP in the latest high-quality products from Nature's Sunshine.  Most people associate curcumin with inflammation, which is only one of its amazing benefits.  Inflammation is huge, but more importantly, this formulation with the addition of black pepper enhances its potency and bioavailability by driving it in deeper at a cellular level.

Curcumin, a rhizome in turmeric and part of the ginger family, has also historically been shown to inhibit joint tissue breakdown, protects liver cells and is a neuro-protective (for the aging brain).  Other buzz words associated with curcumin is cardiovascular, psoriasis, eczema, stiffness, back pain, immune and memory.

My personal testimony...started coming down with body aches and a migraine about 2 weeks ago. I took 4 curcumin (2 capsules one hour apart) and it helped my headache/migraine and body aches go away.  I was pretty impressed and have used for various inflammation and muscle soreness situations and have been very pleased. It has been easy on the digestive system and not bothered my IBS, rather has helped it.

I would say an important one to have in your Herbal Cabinet.

In health, Jennifer

Loving Your Lymph

I seem to be talking about the lymphatic system a lot these days.  It's my favorite body system and the unsung hero in maintaining optimal health.  Anyone that hangs out around me long enough, either by taking a class, stopping by the shop or just having tea, eventually all health conversations eventually lead to lymph.

For those of you that have taken classes with Dr Kim Balas and Steven Horne you are probably familiar with the concept of ABC+D.  Well when you give your lymph some TLC you hit all four principles.  Here's how:  It activates the emotional healing response, provides nutrient transport to build, assists with detoxification or cleansing, and works as a direct aid for many ailments.  I find working with the lymphatic system useful for respiratory issues, male & female reproductive challenges, and anyone struggling with multiple emotional blockages.  By the way, if you haven't take this course yet, I highly recommend it if you want to either be a better herbalist or just take better care of yourself.

So when working with the lymph where do you start?  Essential oils and flower essences are a great place to start.  When we talk about different organs holding on to specific emotions I find that the lymph system is very much connected.  So if you find you've been unable to work through a specific emotional concern look to adding some lymphatic support.

Herbally, I love Nature's Sunshine Lymphatic Drainage and Lymphomax and find adding these to any of your herbal protocols will enhance their effectiveness.  Manual lymphatic drainage is very useful.  It is a very light touch, noninvasive therapy, usually performed by a licensed massage therapist.  I personally had a breast fibroid disappear after just one session.

Making good food choices is critical if you want to maintain a healthy lymph system.  Avoiding commercial dairy products is huge.  Most of today's dairy products, organics included is very mucus forming and congests the lymph.  Choose raw dairy from a local farm and take some time to understand the A2 factor.  The Amasai from Beyond Organic seems to be working well for many people.

Lastly, I cannot say enough about the benefits of cultured whey for the lymphatic system.  I've been personally consuming the one from Beyond Organic (Suero Viv) consistently for the past six months and it has become my favorite elixir.  I still drink my kombucha and coconut water but as far as having an affinity for the lymph system nothing comes close.  It's my new "secret" ingredient that seems to be making my herbal protocols all work faster.   Also a great detox option, read my post on The Suero Cleanse.

Whether you are a natural health professional or someone looking to take better care of yourself, I can promise you that the more you understand and love your lymph the better you will look and feel.

Fennel - powerful to break down fat

As we begin to prepare for spring, and Spring Break, we are evaluating ourselves and wondering, how can we get in shape to sport a healthy, bikini body. Well, let me share a popular herb that I'm sure you've heard of...Fennel.

Most people think of digestion when you say Fennel. Or a galactagogue (increasing breast milk). But I bet you didn't know that it also works directly to reduce adipose
tissue. It contains ketones which are historically known to break down fat.

Because of its ketone action, it is a great remedy to help induce weight loss, primarily due to its diuretic and laxative actions, as well as a decongestant for the liver and gall bladder. Fennel not only assists in weight loss but it also restores rhythmic function to help balance the fluids in our body, assimilation of nutrients and stregthen detoxification processes. You can find this in our Herb Shoppe's as an herbal tea, liquid tincture, herbal formula and in an aromatherapy body spray and body lotion (best application).

The Suero Cleanse

When it comes to cleanses, I have done them all! Herbal, juice, wheatgrass, lemon juice, colonic, emotional, technological... So when Jordan Rubin, author of Living Beyond Organic and founder of Beyond Organic (a new food company) suggested a Suero Fast, I said Game On.

The fast consists of drinking 8oz of Suero Viv (cultured whey/essential oil beverage) every hour for 12 hours. We tried it yesterday as a family- me, my dog, and husband. I could only get down 32oz and had to stop because I was worried if I drank anymore I wouldn't be able to sleep. My husband Bill was able to drink 80 oz- the goal was 96oz. My dog drank 4oz and then demanded dinner.

So, even from our partial fast (we ended up eating a couple of sardines and an sprouted grain english muffin w/raw cheddar) we felt great. Cultured whey (different from isolated whey found in protein drinks) has been used for centuries as an all over curative. It was made popular by spas and healing resorts in Switzerland.

Cultured whey is a great source of potassium, flushes excess sodium (ie, ladies- helps with swelling) and is great for the lymphatic system (cellulite is the first thing that comes to mind here.) Clearing the lymphatic system can be beneficial for things like allergies, breast swelling, menstrual disorders, prostate issues, swollen hands, feet and legs. To learn more about the benefits of cultured whey check out the writings of Christopher Vasey.

So, after my personal experience I decided to create a modified version of the fast and incorporate it into a whole body cleanse. You can do this cleanse with any of your favorite seasonal herbal cleanses or by itself. And remember, while you don't necessarily need to fast from all foods, making better food choices will only enhance the effects. So, watch the sugar, wheat, and alcohol.

Suero Cleanse
Start with 4oz of Suero Viv on Day One. Increase to 16 oz (one bottle) on Day Two and add one additional bottle per day until you reach 4 bottles per day for women/6 bottles for men. Stay on that amount for 2-3 days and then back down by one bottle per day. After that 1/2-2 bottles per day maintenance as needed.

A few things to expect might be increased bowel activity and urination. This has been the most common comment so far. Overall feeling of not being puffy, stagnant with increased energy, stamina and overall sense of well-being. Diminished food cravings, feeling of satiety. Looking forward to hearing about your experiences.

Keep in mind the standard disclaimer, check with your doctor first, info provided only for educational and entertainment purposes. We do not prescribe, diagnose or make any claims.

You can pick up Suero Viv at many Herb Shoppes, Chiropractic Offices, Natural Health Practitioner offices and other specialty groups. Order online at The Health Chic Market or find someone near you.

Five Financial Costs of American Obesity

We know that being overweight isn't good for our health, but carrying extra weight costs more, too. Here are the top five costs associated with obesity.

read more | digg story

Need help with your weight loss program? Stop by one of the shoppes to find a weight loss aid to fit your needs. Adding things as simple as digestive enzymes, fiber, and a custom aromatherapy blend are an easy way to get started.

My personal favorites are Nutri-Burn shakes, SF, CelluSmooth, and Collatrim (great for carb cravings.) I also like to add freshly made veggie juices as a dinner replacement once per week and two slices of Ezekiel bread daily.

Lastly if you tend to be holding extra weight around your mid section consider whole body cleanses such as Tiao He or Dieter's Cleanse and watch your sugar intake. If sugar is a real problem for you ask about customized candida cleanses.

Aromatherapy for Weight Management

Hi, I’d like to share with you some aromatherapy options that may help you on your weight management journey. I’ll begin by giving a brief description of how aromatherapy works. Essential oils are very therapeutic and beneficial. They can help address physical, mental, emotional and spiritual concerns. When working with weight issues, all 4 of these modalities are very important.

Having the right mindset to activate the body is key to helping the body heal itself. All 100% pure essential oils are activators and can help with mood, behavior, attitude, addictions and motivation. The oils that work best in this situation are going to be the ones that you like the most. I personally conduct olfactory sensory testing with my customers to determine which scents they respond to the best. You can do this simply by taking any bottle of essential oil (such as red mandarin for example) and waft it under your nose from side to side. Take a deep breath and inhale the scent. Do you like it? On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the best, where does it rank? For me, if it ranks a 6 or higher, this means I would use it.

You can diffuse it in an Aromaball or nebulizing diffuser throughout the day or just add it to a blend such as a body spray or roll-on. Creating a blend with the oils that you like or just using a single essential oil, can help with emotional and mental connections we may have to weight issues, such as fear, anxiety, depression, grief and anger, regardless of overweight or underweight. Many times, weight issues are a result of something emotional that is going on, hence the term emotional eating. Some oils that are beneficial for eating addictions are bergamot and clary sage. You can smell the oil, diffuse it or make a roll-on.

Essential oils such as frankincense and myrrh can also help one connect spiritually but again, so will the oils that you like. You may like an oil one day and not the next and that’s okay because we are constantly changing and exposed to different situations so of course our emotions and needs are going to change.

On a physical level, there are oils that can help with the appearance of cellulite such as pink grapefruit, patchouli or the Nature’s Sunshine blend Cellutone. These oils may help to move a stagnant lymphatic system by breaking down toxins and assisting in stimulating circulation. Fat is just trapped toxins that need to be broken down so we can flush them out effectively. To make a great cellulite buster blend, combine some Nature’s Sunshine Cellutone Essential Oil blend into Nature’s Sunshine Herbal Trim Skin Treatment with some Nature’s Sunshine Detoxification Homeopathic to help enhance the effects for weight loss. Herbal Trim Skin Treatment is also nice to help tone the skin. You can even use it by itself as a moisturizer.

For someone with constipation, patchouli is a great oil as it helps one to let go – physically and emotionally. Many times if the bowels get moving, so does the weight. Again, smelling, diffusing, applying a roll-on blend topically to the abdomen area can help.

To help someone fight sugar cravings, pink grapefruit with a hint of cinnamon may be beneficial. To curb appetite, smell any of the culinary essential oils such as thyme, rosemary, cinnamon, grapefruit and so forth. You want to smell one oil at a time, by taking one oil and drafting it 6-8 times per nostril. This satiates the taste buds and satisfies your cravings.

Scentful regards,
Jennifer
